Rotary Club Members (Rotarians) come from all walks of life and is open to both men and women. You need to be a person of good character and standing, either in or have been in a trade or profession. Our membership include members of the military, public servants, employees in the private sector, self employed and retirees.
You need to be willing to commit yourself, mostly in terms of some time and cost.
It is difficult, in a few words here, to explain why people join Rotary.
Many people say:
"I gain far more from being a member, than I contribute."
Membership of all Rotary Clubs is by invitation. It is not necessary that you know a member of our club. Our club expects anyone who is considering becoming a member to attend several dinner meetings before the club will extend an invitation to become a member. The members look forward to your possible involvement, and are only more than happy to discuss with you what we do, why we do it, and how.
What is the commitment? As a Rotarian there is a commitment in terms of both time and money. The Rotary Club of Canberra East meets at on Mondays at 6pm for a 6.15pm.
We expect that you will attend as many of the Club meetings as you can - we understand that you are busy and possibly travel. The minumum is 50% of the meetings throoughout the year, either at our Club, a designated Club activity or through attending the meeting of another club where ever you happen to be throughout the world.
Club members are on one of the Committees
Club Service - involves the running of the Club
International Service - where we are involved with overseas projects as you will see on our homepage.
Community Service - where we help people in our local community
Youth Service - helping increase the potential of children
Vocational Service - where we encourage Rotarians to serve others through their vocations and to practice high ethical standards.
You will have the opportunity to pursue areas you are interested in where possible. All projects start with one person with an idea or goal.
The annual cost is kept to the minimum possible, however there is an annual fee that is agreed by the Club each year to cover costs.
During the meetings we have the opportunity for fellowship, getting to know club members and guests, we generally have an speaker who talks about their topic for about 20 minutes, followed by questions.
As Rotarians, we aim to have fun whilst making a worthwhile contribution - locally and overseas.
